RRB Advisors is a research and consulting company providing actionable insights, implementable advisory, and deep research services to start-ups, SMEs, and investment research firms. As consultants, we help ambitious entrepreneurs and experienced business owners in the process of starting, fundraising, scaling, and exiting businesses.

Our typical consulting services include business plans, pitch decks, financial models, market research, valuations, and high-end advisory on strategic, business, and financial matters. We help get things done so you can get results.

As financial researchers, we provide differentiated insights on the economy, sectors, equity, and fixed-income products. Our typical clients are sell-side and buy-side firms who use our research and modeling services to better analyze the stock/sector under coverage.

We are based out of Kolkata and Mumbai, though we help businesses, start-ups, and fund managers across the globe including the US, EU, MENA, Canada, Singapore, Hong Kong, the Caribbean, and India. A right fit between innovative technologies and outstanding human intellect has always been at the heart of our strategies.

 

 

Our founders have worked in the industry

Before founding in 2015, our founders worked in global research houses and investment banks with a combined experience of 30+ years. They have had working experience in a various spheres of finance and strategy including deal analysis, due diligence, equity research, credit research, market studies, investor reporting and fund raising.

Vinod Gupta

Vinod Gupta is a financial consultant and a start-up mentor. He coaches, advises, and mentorsfounders from the entire process of starting, raising, scaling and exiting a venture. Initially starting as a lone consultant, he went to join hands with an equally exciting co-founder (Sumit) and together they have built an amazing team which help founders build great companies. A few facts about Vinod:

  • He is a Chartered Accountant (CPA equivalent) with 15+ years of experience
  • He was an analyst at CRISIL, where he worked and led in the diverse verticals of research, valuations and fundraising.
  • His experience includes working with multi-cultural teams of analysts from biggest investment banks and consulting firms across MENA, APAC and North America.
  • He is the founder and CEO of another company as well. (Bookkeeping eSolutions)
  • Since founding RRB Advisors, Vinod has had experience in coaching 110+ start-ups, SMEs and mid growth businesses across various sectors including finance, internet, retail, manufacturing, and technology among dozens others.
  • He periodically engages with scores of CEO’s and business owners which has honed his sense of business models and growth over the years.
  • He prefers to make complex models on excel and play with his children than go partying on a Saturday night.

Sumit Mathur

Sumit is a financial consultant and an investment analyst. He brings his expertise and experience to the investment research side of the business. He specializes in providing financial and economic research, due-diligence analysis, financial modeling, and transaction advisory. He was a colleague of Vinod at CRISIL. A few facts about Sumit:

  • Sumit has an MBA in Finance with 18+ years of work experience
  • Post CRISIL, he was a VP at the Japanese I-bank Mizuho
  • He has extensive experience in Industry and Macro research, financial modelling, deal structuring, M&A screening, and strategic consulting
  • He has extensive experience in Equity and Credit research having tracked some of the biggest public limited companies in India, Europe, US and Asia
  • He is an independent investor and sometimes an esoteric one having made a net profit in the early days of Bitcoin

How we Work

Understand the business & the industry:

We get on a video call to understand your business and industry dynamics, the problems your clients have, how you solve them and how your competitors solve them. Here we try to understand your business in the way a potential investor would. This is actually a strategy consulting call, where we compel you to provide details, consider alternate perspectives and make you pitch why your business is fundable/ feasible. Based on this we suggest, and you decide what kind of a solution you require: a pitch deck, a model, a business plan or a combination.

This initial interaction usually lasts for 1-1.5 hours.

Prepare Outline:

Once we understand your business and you have decided on the solution we provide a concise, point wise outline on the sections we are going to cover. We usually provide a 20-minute questionnaire where you fill in details of your business such as financials, traction and operational details. You can also provide us the details in a pre-made version such as Excel or PDF. This is an iterative process as we are trying to build a coherent story based on your feed backs and our market research. This is hard stuff, and we do most of the work here. We simply don’t stop till the outline is nailed.

This exercise usually takes 3-4 days and 5-6 calls.

Fill in the Outline:

Once the outline is complete, we work towards filling in the details. We provide a time range within which you can send additional details. We provide sketch versions in between so you are aware of the flow. Once finished we run you through slide by slide, section by section or tab by tab and wordsmith it till you're satisfied.
